Landing Elementary School participated in a floor ball hockey program offered by the New York Islanders outreach program.

The New York Islanders provided pinnies, elementary student-sized hockey sticks and floor balls for this unit. Students learned various skills related to hockey in their physical education classes and practiced them throughout the unit. Students enjoyed wearing the Islanders’ jersey-like pinnies, while they practiced their skills improving gross motor coordination and eye-hand coordination.

Physical education teacher Karen Serani extended her gratitude to the New York Islanders and the outreach program for connecting the Glen Cove community to their organization. It’s a wonderful program where students can enjoy hockey while being junior representatives for the New York Islanders in their own elementary school. Various Landing photos are featured in the official New York Islanders floor ball curriculum and shared with all schools in the program, which is a wonderful representation of the Glen Cove community.
