Community members, local officials and district employees visited Connolly students during the school’s Pick a Reading Partner Community Readers celebration.

At the event, Glen Cove Mayor Reginald Spinello, members of the Glen Cove Police Department and Fire Department, senior citizens, district professionals and others read grade level-appropriate books to the students. The visitors also spoke to the youngsters about their professional careers and how reading helped them to become successful adults.

Academic Intervention Services teacher Dora Ricciardi, who organized the event, said it was beneficial for students to hear adults read aloud.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to hear adult readers read fluently,” she said. “It also sends a powerful message to the students when they hear how reading has impacted the lives of their guest reader.”

As part of the school’s two-week PARP celebration, Glen Cove High School’s National Honor Society students were invited to read at Connolly. Connolly students also visited and read to students at Gribbin School.
