As distance learning for the school year comes to a close, Connolly’s fifth grade students recently completed two STREAM projects, a marble run and a paper bridge building challenge, which focused on teaching critical thinking and problem solving and showcased their hands-on creative work.

For the marble run project, students created a three-dimensional, free standing marble/ball run of at least 40 centimeters. Students used recyclables, toys, paper products and several other items they had at home to design and build their run.

The paper bridge project challenged the students to build paper bridges and discover how changing the shape and folding paper would add strength. They tested three different ways to fold the paper, placed their bridge on cups and then added pennies to see how many pennies each bridge would hold.
