Advocate for Our Schools

The Harmed Suburban Five is a group of parents, teachers and administrators in New York who are seeking equitable funding for five districts – Glen Cove, Ossining, Port Chester, Riverhead and Westbury.

Why is Glen Cove City School District one of the five?
Our district has faced severe funding shortages in the last ten years – funding that amounts to tens of millions of dollars for our schools and students. This shortage creates even more of a hardship, as our district has experienced an increase in student enrollment, a decrease in the combined wealth ratio, an increase in English Language Learners, and an increase in those who qualify for free or reduced lunches. All of these factors create a situation that make it difficult to fill that aid shortage gap.

How can the community help?
Everyone can help by urging lawmakers to help close the gap for districts like ours. Sample letters are included here, as well as the contact information to email, or mail, your letter to those in Albany.
