On Tuesday, December 17th the first-grade classes at Gribbin Elementary wore their pajamas to school and hopped on the Polar Express for the day. Students read the classic holiday storybook, completed Polar Express themed projects including ‘marshmallow math’ using marshmallows to solve addition and subtraction problems, a first gift of the holiday season writing activity, and created a sequence of events from the story.

To close out the school day, the classes decorated their own train tickets which were hole punched and then each class “boarded the train” and watched the film The Polar Express while drinking hot chocolate and eating chocolate chip cookies that they baked earlier that day. At the end of the day students received a special token to take home with them – a silver bell.
